More power in B2 with new-generation 18,000sph Rapida 74 at Nitoli Indústria Gráfica in São Paulo and Gráfica Adonis in Americana. By Gerhard Renn
New Rapida 74 prints packaging and much more in Brazil
Two Rapida 74 five-colour B2 (28in) coater presses that recently came on stream at Nitoli Indústria Gráfica in São Paulo and Gráfica Adonis in Americana show that the new-generation, 18,000sph version launched at Drupa 2004 is also popular in Brazil. Both of these printing plants have been working with KBA sheetfed presses for a number of years.
The Rapida 74 that went into operation at Nitoli Indústria Gráfica in São Paulo has given the upmarket packaging specialist a huge productivity boost and the ability to produce added-value packaging with high-impact gloss effects. The company's fourth KBA press in total, the Rapida 74 joins two Rapida 72 K two-colour versions dating back to 1995 and 1998, and follows a Rapida 74 five-colour coater press that was installed in 2002.
Founded in 1969 by Alfonso Nitoli in a suburb of São Paulo, Nitoli Indústria Gráfica has evolved from a commercial printer to a highly specialised printer of packaging. The 45-employee company backs up its high-quality products with a complete range of customer services that have enabled it to establish a reputation well beyond São Paulo and even the frontiers of Brazil, most notably among brand manufacturers in the USA and Europe whose standards are exceptionally high. So the plant is certainly kept busy.
Confidence in performance and range of applications Said company head Jorge Tadeu Nitoli, ‘Our growth and our entrepreneurial success are closely linked to the performance of the KBA presses. Our investment in the new-generation Rapida 74 five-colour coater press, with output 3,000 sheets per hour faster than its predecessor, enables us to print high-volume jobs with the same reliability and timeliness as shorter runs. And like its predecessor, the new Rapida 74 features an optional CX board-handling package. So it can print a broad range of substrates.’
All-round print provider with high quality standards Gráfica e Editora Adonis in Americana, near São Paulo, can look back on an equally successful association with Koenig & Bauer. The Rapida 74 that took up production there at the end of October is the company's sixth KBA press.
In the 45 years since it was established in 1961 by Agostinho Comelato, Gráfica e Editora Adonis has also built up a solid reputation in the Brazilian market for performance coupled with quality.
Americana was founded by immigrants from America. Of Italian descent, the Comelato family have steadily grown their business since settling in the city many years ago after emigrating from the United States. Today the 3,400 sq/metre site employs a staff of 53 in prepress, press, post press and administration.
Gráfica e Editora Adonis' association with KBA dates back to 1994, when it installed three Rapida 72 K two-colour presses. They were joined in 1999 and 2004 by a Rapida 74 four-colour coater press and a Rapida 74 five-colour press. The presses are in operation every day of the month. And new customers are constantly being added to the books. A string of awards is evidence of the high standards to which the ISO 9001-accredited company works. Its product range embraces labels and brochures, catalogues and flyers, books and packaging. But the family is never content to rest on its laurels.
Said Aquiles Berggren Comelato, company head and son of the founder, ‘The market, and customer demands, are continually changing and raising the bar. So to stay ahead of the curve we must invest in new technology on an ongoing basis. With the new 18,000 sheets per hour Rapida 74 we have taken another major step forward. We are delighted to be one of the first users of this new Rapida 74 generation in Brazil. The coating options enable us to provide our customers with an even better service. Already we coat more than half of all the jobs we print.’
