Duplo plans major debuts at Digital Print World

FULL STORY
At this year's Digital Print World exhibition, Duplo International will be unveiling a major new initiative designed to encourage printers to 'Think Again' about the tangible business benefits that can be gained from thinking more carefully about the way printed sheets are finished. Duplo will also be debuting two new solutions designed to complement the campaign.

For the first time in the UK, the new GMP-Protopic 520 Digital Laminator (pictured), designed to combat the problems of laminating digital print, will be on show. Exerting one metric ton of pressure onto the roller, the easy to use and cost-effective on-demand laminator addresses common problems associated with laminating digitally produced printed work, such as curling. The GMP-Protopic 520 runs at a maximum speed of 15m per minute and uses GMP's polynex digital supermelt films, which guarantee perfect lamination on all leading digital media.

Duplo will also, for the first time, demonstrate an automated end-to-end digital finishing solution consisting of its new multi-functional MKF-35 Knife Folder coupled in-line to its DC-645 Production Colour Finisher. The DC-645 slits, cuts and creases the sheet as well as compensates for image shift, whilst the MKF-35 then completes the job by folding the document - from press to finished product in one single pass.

Capable of running at up to 17,000 folds per hour, the flexible MKF-35 can be used with materials up to 3mm thick, including paper, cardboard, brochures, and pre-folded sheets, and can be operated as a stand-alone machine or moved around the finishing department and placed in-line to a folder, press, bookletmaker or docucutter. Coupled to any bookletmaker, the MKF-35 can be used to fold booklets in half, thus reducing the size of the finished product and achieving huge cost-savings in response to the new Royal Mail Pricing In Proportion charges.

DPW will also be the public arena for the launch of Duplo's latest industry commitment to bring finishing to the top of the print production agenda, and encourage printers to 'Think Again'.

The first major initiative of Duplo's multi-faceted campaign entitled 'Think Again' will be the launch of a series of educational guides, aimed to stimulate interest and understanding about how to find innovative finishing solutions to increase profits.

Visitors will be able to pick up Duplo's new finishing guides hot of the 'press' on the company's DPW Stand, where the guides will be finished live on a System 2000 bookletmaker. Duplo's guides, which have also been awarded full accreditation by the BAPC' are also available from www.profitfromfinishing.com.

Peter Jolly, Duplo International's UK marketing manager, commented, ‘We are constantly thriving to introduce new print finishing solutions that meet the challenging demands of the marketplace, that make the transition to digital production easier for printers and are adoptable for a hybrid offset/digital production environment. DPW is the ideal platform to provide advice on how to make the most of your digital printing equipment and discuss new innovations and ideas. We look forward to meeting visitors and we are confident that DPW 2006 will follow the success of previous years.’

In addition, Duplo International will be showcasing other solutions for the digital arena covering a wide range of finishing capabilities including bookletmaking, binding, folding and cutting.

With its extensive finishing portfolio, Duplo will be illustrating to visitors how finishing remains an integral print production process and how modern finishing equipment can significantly add value and assist printers in maximising returns. It will also be demonstrating to printers how they can increase productivity and efficiency and ultimately enhance their service offering to customers.

Highlights include:

Bookletmaking
In the bookletmaking arena, Duplo will be presenting its Near-line bookletmaking system, which is designed specifically for the needs of digital printers. This comprises the DSF-2000 intelligent sheet feeder, a slit, cut, crease (SCC) module, DBM-500 bookletmaker and DBM-500T trimmer. The SCC module accepts sheets directly from the digital press, trims the non-printed border and creases along the fold line for a full bleed and crack-free finished product. Duplo will also have the popular System 2000 bookletmaker, an ideal entry-level product for all types of printers.

Folding
The newly launched DF-1000 suction folder from Duplo, which debuted at Ipex in April, is set to benefit commercial and on-demand printers. The folder's advanced capabilities allow it produce precisely folded, scratch/mark-free material from work printed on both offset and digital presses. The DF-1000 is the newest addition to Duplo's digital portfolio.

Binding
Featuring on the stand will be the Duplo DB-200 Compact Perfect Binder, which also made its debut at Ipex 2006, and has the ability to produce up to 200 books per hour and is specifically aimed at servicing short-run and on-demand printing applications. Duplo will also be exhibiting a selection of desktop binding solutions, including wire-O, coil and comb binding devices.

Cutting
As well as showcasing the DC-645 Production Colour Finisher with MKF-35, Duplo will also be displaying guillotines from Ideal following the acquisition of the sole UK distributorship earlier this year.

Duplo's range of finishing solutions will also be seen on various partner stands throughout the show.

The entire Duplo range is available throughout Southern Africa from Antalis’ Graphics Division, headquartered in Johannesburg.
