Romein Grafisch Management in The Netherlands recently invested in a four-colour HP Indigo press 3050. The new acquisition replaces its original HP Indigo press 1000 – the capabilities of which generated the original impetus to go digital almost three years ago. The speed and ease of variable digital printing provides a strong technical complement for Romein Grafisch Management's corporate slogan ‘fast, flexible, and free of stress’. 'We began digital printing with an HP Indigo press 1000 because it combined excellent offset quality with the flexibility of variable printing,' said Jasper Romein, managing director, Romein Grafisch Management, who manages the company with his father Wim. 'Today we are replacing this machine with a four-colour HP Indigo press 3050 to achieve even higher productivity and deliver even higher printing quality.' Romein Grafisch Management's customer base mainly consists of advertising agencies and printing companies. The graphic arts sales office Samplonius & Samplonius Projectbegeleiding generates a large order volume for the company. A co-operative arrangement with Meuldijk & Van Loon Producenten, a printer and producer of display materials, brings in an additional stream of job orders. For finishing purposes, Romein co-operates with a bindery that is completely geared to handle small runs. 'These combined resources enable us to offer a complete graphic services package,' said Jasper Romein. Digital print capabilities ensure that Romein Grafisch Management can provide customers with a broad range of print offerings including: brochures, entry tickets, greeting cards and promotional collateral. Variable printing has delivered positive results and a profitable new revenue stream with 40 per cent of the total job orders consisting of printed products with variable data components. 'We had to work hard to achieve these figures, since the market wasn’t initially ripe for digital printing,' said Romein. 'But now more and more clients have become aware of the benefits and are beginning to demand variable printing.' A typical example of a variable printing job at Romein Grafisch Management is a weekly repeat order for greetings cards. These orders are issued by a card publisher who sells picture postcards to bookstores and other sales points in various cities in Holland. Romein manages an impressive image database for this client and processes a weekly order form with variable requirements. The client indicates what pictures must be printed and which need to include specific text, such as 'greetings from’. The average run length per card is at least 25. The HP Indigo press 3050 has proven to be the ideal machine for this client's repeat orders of picture postcards. 'We are using one side coated board. The HP Indigo press 3050 allows us to do duplex printing on heavier paper stock, which is something that we weren’t able to do before,' said Jasper Romein. 'This feature is a considerable improvement for us.' The very high production capacity of the new press is energising the sales activities at Romein Grafisch Management. In near future, the company plans to expand its sales offering to include online ordering. Clients will be able to order a wide variety of marketing collateral from business cards to promotional documents. As Romein Grafisch Management expands its services, the HP Indigo press 3050 can reliably deliver client-pleasing results to ensure successful growth. 'We want to position ourselves as a small but responsive company, where the customer can depend upon us for a comprehensive package of smart graphic solutions,' concluded Romein. © Graphic Repro On-line, 11 August 2006.
