FULL STORY
Drop-on-Demand (DoD) inkjet printing systems bring unique white ink capability for printing on dark backgrounds commonly used in the Industrial printing, packaging and card markets.
The industry's broadest line of high-resolution digital UV inkjet and coding solutions for narrow printing applications will be on display at IPEX from 18 - 25 May, 2010, in Hall 6, with solutions for the packaging, labelling and card markets as well as the commercial and product printing sectors. The Omega line addresses technical and cost-efficiency requirements as well as offering white ink DoD printing for maximum printing flexibility.
Atlantic Zeiser will be demonstrating its full family of Omega printers at IPEX. These high quality single-pass printers are uniquely suited to a wide range of applications in the packaging, labelling, industrial product marking, commercial printing and card markets.
‘New to the Omega family is the capability of using inkjet DoD technology to print with white ink,’ said Ralph Hipp, vice president of Digital Systems. ‘This unique technology, developed in-house by Atlantic Zeiser, has been very successful in the flat financial card market for brands such as VISA and MasterCard. White ink is also commonly used for printing on dark backgrounds in the industrial printing and packaging where high quality, high-speed production is required. We are excited to be bringing this important capability to the attention of IPEX visitors and to work with our customers to develop new and exciting applications.’
With the introduction of white ink, and the global availability of the full family of Omega printers, Atlantic Zeiser is now the leading supplier of digital UV narrow web solutions covering the broadest array of applications for commercial printers, card printers, labelling and packaging converters. In addition, its 'one-stop-shop' systems integration services enable customers to implement custom solutions that include these high-quality printers that can produce excellent results even on challenging substrates.
Product details Omega Printing Systems are Atlantic Zeiser's premium printing modules, ensuring accurate reproduction of bar codes and font sizes down to 4 points as well as optimum legibility of bar codes, graphics and textual information. The high print quality of 360 or 720dpi at print widths of 36 to 210mm facilitates personalisation of pre-printed offset media, even on dark backgrounds, with a quality that makes it difficult to distinguish overprinting from the original offset printing. Based on drop-on-demand array technology, this printer enables single-pass variable data inkjet printing on a wide variety of substrates, ranging from paper and carton to aluminium or metal, polymer foils, plastics and glass, and is easily integrated into most existing equipment. Its Piezo printheads are designed for use with specially formulated UV-cured or solvent-based inks. The combination of the next generation's LED UV curing and Atlantic Zeiser's high contrast inks enable all Omega printers to deliver crisp print quality with no visible stitching lines - the ideal basis for late-stage product customisation and personalisation making it practical, as well as profitable, to generate short runs for subsequent individualisation.
Omega Printers are available in seven different models to meet with the widest range of production needs within the digital narrow printing processes: • Omega 36: an economical, entry-level model with 360dpi print, a print width of 36 mm (1.4 inches) and print speeds of up to 30 m/min (100 feet per minute); • Omega 36i: a resolution of 360dpi offering twice the print speed, running at a maximum of 60 m/min (200 feet per minute); a print width of 36mm • Omega 36HD: the highest quality with a resolution of 720dpi, a smaller droplet size and print speeds of up to 25 m/min (80 feet per minute); a print width of 36mm • Omega 72: an economical, entry-level model with 360dpi and a print width of 72mm (2.8 inches); reaches print speeds of up to 30 m/min (100 feet per minute); • Omega 72i: a resolution of 360dpi and a print width 72mm; offers twice the print speed, running at a maximum of 60 m/min (200 feet per minute) • Omega 72HD: the highest quality with a resolution of 720dpi, a smaller droplet size and print speeds of up to 25 m/min; a print width of 72mm • Omega 210: supports printing of up to 360dpi at a print width of 210mm, reaching print speeds of up to 30 m/min;. This printer is the optimum solution for wider print jobs with a simple one-head design for uninterrupted printing across the entire width.
Both the Omega 36 and Omega 72 family of products can be operated at twice their rated speed when using a print resolution of 180dpi.
‘Atlantic Zeiser's high quality white ink printing improves the look and feel of cards and other printed materials using dark backgrounds, providing customers with increased and unique diversification opportunities,’ added Hipp. ‘IPEX will mark the debut of this exciting capability for the commercial printing market.’
